CBS Sports NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo was placed on leave by the network for an undetermined amount of time due to his recent arrest for suspected operating while intoxicated (OWI). Romo, 46, was arrested in Milwaukee on July 23. He was taken into custody after reportedly performing poorly when given a field-sobriety test. Romo was booked and released following his arrest. On September 21, Romo is due back in court.
While Romo is on leave, former Houston Texans great JJ Watt will take Romo's place on broadcasts, teaming with Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson this season.
Hoosier football coach Cignetti expressed his feelings towards the SEC
Curt Cignetti believes the Big Ten is the best conference in college football heading into this season. The Indiana Hoosiers are looking to become just the second team in the playoff era to win back-to-back national championships. After Indiana went 16-0 and won the national title in January, it became the third straight Big Ten team to win the College Football Playoff.
The Georgia Bulldogs went back-to-back in 2021 and 2022, is the most recent SEC team to win a title. At the Big Ten media day, Cignetti let the SEC know that the Big Ten is the best conference in college football. "We don't run a hype machine up here in the Midwest," Cignetti said. "We believe that everything's earned, not given. And when we fall short, we say we fell short. We don't cry a river, whine and complain. Alright? And that's why we're the best."
Indiana, Oregon and Ohio State all enter the season as legitimate national title contenders and are among the top five favorites to win the national title.
Two of NFL's top running backs are hold-ins at practice. waiting for new deal
Bijan Robinson (Atlanta Falcons) and Jahmyr Gibbs (Detroit Lions) are both hold-ins at their teams training camp. Robinson and Gibbs are by far two of the best young running backs in pro football. Both are looking for contract extensions with huge pay raises. Both running backs reported to training camp.
Robinson and Gibbs are not participating in drills while they work towards new deals. Each teams has been hesitant as of late to give either running back a large second contract. Atlanta and Detroit need to wake up and pay each of these running backs a big extension. It would be considered careless negotiating or a poor job if neither team signs these two guys.
Falcons sign Cooper Rush to help QB room in Atlanta
Tua Tagovailoa and many other big names have been added to the NFL training camp injury report. The quarterback battle between Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. is currently on hold. Penix is still out and cannot participate in team drills due to his ACL injury last season. Tagovailoa is also on the injured list with a back issue. In the meantime, the Falcons recently signed quarterback Cooper Rush to help the team until Tagovailoa or Penix is fully recovered.
Soccer coach Pochettino back with USMNT
United States men's soccer coach Mauricio Pochettino is close to signing a new contract with the USMNT that would keep him on staff through the 2030 World Cup. This is good news for the Americans and it will give Pochettino a full four years to prepare this team for the next World Cup.
