Former Indiana center Sam Alexis announces his plans to return to IU basketball for the 2026-27 season. Alexis recently announced his intention to return to the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers have an open scholarship. Alexis last Friday won a temporary injunction in his legal battle for a fifth year of college eligibility.

Alexis played with Indiana earlier this month in the FISU America Cup Games in Lima, Peru. The Hoosiers represented the United States by wearing the red, white, and blue to win that tournament. Alexis played well with the current players. Indiana has an open scholarship available for the 2026-27 season, giving the Hoosiers thirteen scholarship players. Alexis was one of nineteen players in NCAA basketball listed on the temporary injunction to be eligible to play next season. 

Former five-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has joined Georgia Tech as their new assistant wide receivers coach. Hopkins had also looked in to a NFL coaching role when he visited the New England Patriots prior to reaching a deal with Georgia Tech. Even though Hopkins is currently coaching, he did leave the door open to possibly making a run to get back in the NFL. 

Hopkins, 34 years of age, completed his thirteenth season in the NFL during the 2025 season. However, 2025 was Hopkins worst season in the league with 22 receptions for 330 yards two touchdowns. Last season on Thanksgiving night while playing for the Ravens, Hopkins became the eighteenth player in NFL history to get 1,000 receptions in their career. 

In 2013, Hopkins was a first-round pick by the Houston Texans. Hopkins played his collegiate ball at Clemson. Currently, Hopkins has 1,006 receptions (17th all time in the NFL) for 13,295 yards and 85 touchdowns playing for multiple teams during his career (Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens).
